Actress Visits PCS

On Wednesday the 6th November professional actress Josephine Rogers held a 2 hour workshop to aid Year 11 GCSE Drama students in their upcoming Drama exam due to take place on the 21st November. All students found it hugely beneficial and got a taste of what a professional performance workshop would entail.

’On Wednesday in our double drama lesson we had a workshop with a professional actor called Jo. We started the workshop by doing some fun warm-ups, such as learning how to centre yourself and how to show how much of the room you're using all with your body language. This was very beneficial to us as it helped being able to get into the mindset of my character and separating myself and my personality from the performance. After our warm-ups she came round to all our different groups and we talked to her about the initial idea we had for our performance and the structure we had in place, then we showed her two of our scenes from our devised piece and got her feedback on what went well and what we could work on this was very beneficial to our rehearsals and performance as taking her ideas for our performance into consideration we had solved some issues we had for example we weren't sure on how to start the performance and she suggested showing the main character as a child to make the audience feel more connected as the piece goes on.’’ - Ozzy Year 11 student

‘’The workshop with Jo was really helpful for our dividing performances and it was very professional- it felt like we were in a real drama company. First, Jo taught us how to be aware of ourselves as people and then our class as a whole (the idea that we all work as one). We then described our performance to Jo and showed her a small piece of it. Each group had the same amount of time to spend with Jo so that she could progress our performances effectively. She explained to us how an audience shouldn't just be told things but be able to see what we are hoping to portray, using sound and irony. It was an amazing experience.’’ - Lili Year 11 student
